Refinishing the Old Hinges


These days painted hinges are used in many of the applications but they become problem for those people who want to use them in a simpler way. Getting back them to basics and removing paint from them is little difficult for the people. Get a pot filled with water and boil it to little temperature. Keep the hinges in the pot until the paint gets softened and then carefully remove it with the help of tongs and gloves. If in case there is some excessive paint then you can use wire or soft bristle along with the plastic scraper to remove that.

·         Removing Rust: During the refinishing of the hinges, paint is not the only thing that needs to be removed. Most of the times, hinges have got a significant layer of rust. If the hinges are made of steel, then brown colored rust will be formed. In such conditions you can soak the hinges in motor or vegetable oil and it will take some days to remove the rust.
